2020 Alberta Winter Games

The Alberta Winter Games ran February 14-17, 2020 in Airdrie.

The gold medal game went back and forth for the entire 60 minutes where Zone 3 and Zone 4 would need extra time to find a winner. Zone 4 scored the gold medal clinching goal just 1:41 into the extra frame, making the final score 2-1. Zone 7 claimed bronze with a 2-1 victory over Zone 5.

The Alberta Winter Games are the start of the Hockey Alberta Development Program, and run every second year, alternating with the Alberta Challenge. The Alberta Winter Games provide athletes, coaches, trainers and administrators an opportunity to discover the qualities of competitive hockey in a well-organized regional camp and select team competition. Female athletes born in 2005 and 2006 who are registered with Hockey Alberta are eligible to compete in the 2020 Alberta Winter Games.

Recently revamped, the Alberta Winter Games - Female Hockey begins with two regional camps, a North and a South Camp, designed to allow athletes, coaches and trainers to show their skills and receive top-level instruction and evaluation. The top 60 athletes from each regional camp (three teams per region), six coaches, three coach mentors, three trainers and three directors of operations will be selected to participate in the Alberta Winter Games.
