Hockey Alberta Announces 2014 Alberta Winter Games Male Roster & Team Staffs

Hockey Alberta is pleased to announce the rosters and team staffs for the eight female zone teams that will compete at the 2014 Alberta Winter Games, which will take place in Canmore and Banff, Alberta between February 6 and 9, 2014.

The staff from each of the eight zone teams - Sunny South, Big Country, Calgary, Parkland, Black Gold, Edmonton, Northeast and Peace Country - is made up of five positions; Director of Operations, Coach Mentor, Head Coach, and two assistant coaches.

Each team staff member completed an application process to obtain their particular position. Prior experience, certification and Team Alberta program involvement are all taken into consideration.

The team rosters are made up of two (2) goalies, six (6) defense and twelve (12) forwards born in 2001. The teams were selected following zone camps, which took place across the province December 6 - 8.

Over 900 athletes participated in the Zone Selection Camps, providing very competitive camps, unique to this age group.

About the Alberta Winter Games

The Alberta Winter Games were established in 1974 as a multi-sport event to provide develop opportunities for amateur athletes and help them advance their skills in a competitive yet friendly environment.

The female event is held in opposite years of the ATB Alberta Challenge and is the first stage of the Team Alberta Female Program. After the event, 60 athletes are invited to attend the Team Alberta U16 Female summer development camp.

Hockey Alberta Announces 2014 ATB Alberta Cup Team Staffs

Hockey Alberta is pleased to announce the team staff members for the eight zone teams that will compete at the 2014 ATB Alberta Cup, April 24-27 in Strathmore, Alberta.

The staff from each of the eight zone teams - South, Calgary North, Calgary South, Central, Edmonton North, Edmonton South, Northeast and Northwest -  is made up of six positions; Director of Operations, Coach Mentor, Head Coach, two assistant coaches and one trainer.

Each team staff member completes an application process to obtain their particular position. Prior experience, certification and Team Alberta program involvement are all taken into consideration.  

The coaching staffs will be responsible for selecting the teams during zone camps taking place March 28-30, all across the province. Zone camps are open to all 1999-born male athletes.  Registration for zone camps will open January 15th, 2014.

 

About the ATB Alberta Cup

 

The ATB Alberta Cup is the premier hockey event in the province that helps identify the top male bantam aged players from each zone in Alberta.  It is well attended by scouts as they prepare for the Western Hockey League’s bantam draft. In addition to player evaluations, the competition is also an opportunity for administrators, coaches, trainers and referees to be evaluated for future positions within the Team Alberta U16 and Team Pacific Programs.

 

Former Team Alberta program graduates include such players as Mathew Dumba, Jordan Eberle, Devan Dubnyk, Braden Holtby, Tyler Myers, Tyler Ennis, Dany Heatley, Jay Bouwmeester, Dion Phaneuf, Scott Hartnell, Devin Setoguchi.

ATB Financial is the title sponsor of all Team Alberta programs, including the ATB Alberta Cup and the ATB Alberta Challenge. The Team Alberta Male Program is a two year progression for elite athletes that begins at the ATB Alberta Cup, a U15 age level event, and progresses to the U17 age level. The Team Alberta Female Program is a four year progression for elite athletes that begins at the ATB Alberta Challenge, a U16 age level event, and progresses to the U18 age level. Team Alberta programs feed into Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence.

Hockey Alberta is pleased to announce the Team Alberta North Male and Female rosters that will compete at the 2014 Arctic Winter Games, which will take place in Fairbanks, Alaska, USA between March 15 - 22, 2014.

The team roster is made up of two (2) goalies, six (6) defensemen and nine (9) forwards born in 1999-2000. The team was selected following a selection camp which took place December 13 -14, 2013 in Manning, Alberta.

Team Alberta Female North

The team roster is made up two goalies, six defensemen and nine forwards born in 1995 or later. The team was selected following a selection camp which took place January 10-13, 2014 in Slave Lake, Alberta.

About the Arctic Winter Games

The Arctic Winter Games is the world’s largest northern multi-sport and cultural event. The Arctic Winter Games are a celebration of athletic completion, culture, friendship and cooperation between northern contingents. Athletic competition features sports that enjoy worldwide popularity alongside traditional Arctic Sports and dene Games. A significant cultural component featuring visual arts, dance, ceremonies and galas with participants from across the circumpolar region is a pillar of the Games.

The Arctic Winter Games are unique because they include and encourage competition of traditional Arctic and Dene games for those living in the Circumpolar North.

Ice hockey competition is held in junior women’s and midget and bantam boys age classes. Each team is comprised of 17 players and two coaches. Teams participate in a round-robin tournament to determine seeding for medal-round pairings. One gold ulu is awarded in each age/sex class. Teams that regularly participate in ice hockey include Alaska, Yukon, Alberta North, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

Communities eligible to participate in the Arctic Winter Games are located North of the 55th Parallel. Teams that regularly participate include Alaska, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Northern Alberta.
