Hockey Alberta announced on Friday the U16 female rosters for the eight zone teams that will compete at the 2012 Alberta Winter Games, February 9-12, 2012 in Spruce Grove.

“It’s always exciting for the athletes to participate in a provincial event like the Alberta Winter Games,” said Team Alberta Female Coordinator, Mike Kraichy. “We had a solid turnout at each of the zone camps and we are excited to start preparing the athletes for the competition.”
Close to 600 athletes tried out in total at the eight different zone camps that occurred around the province in December. From each camp 20 athletes were chosen to represent their zone. Only female players born from 1997-2000 were eligible to try out.
The Alberta Winter Games is the first stage of the Team Alberta Female program and occurs every second year opposite of the Team Alberta Challenge. The tournament leads to the selection of 60 athletes to attend the Team Alberta U16 Female summer development camp. From there athletes are identified to continue into the Team Alberta U18 program.
The Alberta Winter Games were established in 1974 as multi-sport event to provide develop opportunities for amateur athletes and help them advance their skills in a competitive yet friendly environment.
