“We’re really enthusiastic about this year’s group of athletes,” said Hockey Alberta’s Manager of Hockey Development, Michael Kraichy. “These players have already participated in some high level hockey and we expect they’ll bring that level of compete to the Summer Camp.”
The selection process started with an intense Spring Camp in Spruce Grove in May where a combined total of 85 athletes met to compete for one of the 46 spots. Following the completion of the Spring Camp, the coaching and evaluation staff reduced the roster down to 46 athletes.
From Summer Camp, a selected group of players will be identified to compete at a fall selection camp in September. Players will be short listed and scouted through the start of the club team season until the final Team Alberta roster is named that will compete at the 2013 National Women’s Under-18 Championship, November 6-10 in Calgary, AB.
The National Women’s U18 Championship occurs in the off years of the Canada Winter Games. At the 2012 event, Team Alberta finished in 7th place.
Team Alberta U18 Female is the final stage of the Team Alberta Female Program and one of the initial stages that Hockey Canada uses to help identify players for the National Program.
